How to Charge Apple Pencil without Adapter

If you are an iPad enthusiast, you must have realized that there are two generations of Apple Pencils. There is the first and second-generation Apple Pencil. One of the things to note is that they operate differently. Both of them run through a battery, so eventually, they run out of power. There are different ways that you can charge your Apple Pencil. One of the ways that you can do this is without the use of an adapter. This article aims to show you how you can charge an Apple Pencil without an adapter. However, before we look at how you can do this, let us discuss more Apple Pencil.

 

What is an Apple Pencil?

As mentioned above, there are two types of Apple Pencils. There are the first generation and second-generation Apple Pencils. Both of them are white and have almost the same dimensions. However, it is also worth noting their differences because not all iPad devices support these. Therefore, it is important to know which one you choose to use. The first-generation Apple Pencil features a silver band around its top, while the second-generation does not have it. The second-generation has a matte finish and a flat side. The First Apple Pencil generation features a shiny, smooth finish and is round. It also has a removable cap that exposes the lightning connector used in pairing and charging the pencil. On the other hand, the second-generation pairs and usually recharges magnetically and never uses a lightning connector.

Since the Apple Pencil uses a power battery, you have to charge it to operate effectively. Like any other device, it is critical to know how to do the charging. Recharge your apple pencil when you find that the power is going down.

 

How to check Apple Pencil battery level 

One thing to know is that an Apple Pencil does not have LED lights or a physical charge indicator on its body. However, you can check its current battery level using the following ways.

  • Swipe down from the device’s top bezel to prompt the notification center. You can also turn it on to have a look at its lock screen.
  • Swipe right to see the widgets screen.
  • Have a look at the batteries section.
  • In case you cannot find the batteries section, you may be required to first click Edit below the Widget area and then click the green Plus button located next to the batteries to add the battery section as an active widget.

If you have a second-generation Apple Pencil, you can still follow the above steps. Or you can put it on the magnetic charging strip on the device. You can also remove and then place it back down again if it remains connected to the magnetic charging strip. When you do this, a notification comes up and shows the battery charge percentage. Now that you know how to check the battery charge level, let us look at how you can charge it.

 

1. How to charge Apple Pencil generation 1 without an adapter 

Recharge your Apple Pencil when it goes below 20 percent charge. In most cases, when it goes below 20 percent, it gives you a warning that the battery is running out of power. Here are steps to follow when charging.

  • Remove the cap from the pencil. In case you fear losing it during the charging process. You can magnetically attach it to the device next to the Home button.
  • Put the lightning connector into your device’s lighting port.

 

 

For Apple Pencil generation 2, you can put the Apple Pencil on the wide side of your iPad Pro (using the magnetic strip.)

 

2. Charge your Apple Pencil with an iPad Pro

Turn your Bluetooth On to pair your Apple Pencil with your iPad. Turn on the Bluetooth in the Settings menu of your iPad Pro. Here are the steps to follow to turn your Bluetooth On and pair your Apple Pencil.

Step 1

  • Open the Setting app
  • Click Bluetooth
  • Tap on the Bluetooth toggle switch
  • Remove the cap from your Apple Pencil end.
  • Connect the lightning connector to your iPad charging port.
  • Connect the lightning connector to the charging port on your iPad.
  • Tap pair

Step 2

  • Attach the Apple Pencil to the magnetic connector. The magnetic connector is on the right side of your device.

 

3. Plug-in your iPad pencil into the iPad Port directly 

  • Remove the Apple Pencil cap located at its end. It helps uncover a lightning connector that you connect to your iPad.

  • Plug in the lightning connector into your device’s lighting port. The port is at the bottom of your device, just below the Home button located below your screen. When you do this, your Apple Pencil begins to charge instantly.

 

Point to note

Apple Pencil quick charge technology ensures that you can use your device for thirty minutes after charging it for just fifteen seconds. However, it is advisable to recharge your Apple Pencil for at least five to ten minutes. Especially if it is under 20 percent; Doing this, you do not have to keep on recharging it.
